Long Shadows in the Afternoon

Long Shadows in the Afternoon

Autumn Arrives Quietly Series Vol.3

The trees are still green.

But the light has begun to change.

In summer, afternoon sunlight seems to stay high for hours. It fills streets and gardens with brightness, stretching the day long into the evening.

By early autumn, something feels different.

The sun sits a little lower in the sky.

Its light reaches across rooftops, wooden walls, and quiet paths at a gentler angle.

And the shadows grow longer.

A bicycle resting beside a house casts a thin shape across the ground.

Tree branches leave moving patterns on a wall.

Sunlight enters a room and reaches farther across the floor than it did only a few weeks before.

These are small changes.

We may pass them every day without noticing.

Yet once we do, the afternoon begins to feel different.

The light seems warmer.

The shadows seem quieter.

Even familiar places can take on a slightly different character.

Autumn has not yet filled the trees with red and gold.

There are still warm days ahead.

But perhaps color is not the first way we see the season change.

Sometimes, autumn first appears as light.

A lower sun.

A longer shadow.

A familiar place seen differently for a moment.

The breeze came first.

Then came the sounds of evening.

Now, even the afternoon light is beginning to tell us that the season is moving on.
